MDMA Crystals
What is MDMA?
Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), commonly known as ecstasy (tablet form), and molly or mandy (crystal form). is a synthetic drug that acts as a stimulant and hallucinogen. It produces an energizing effect, distortions in time and perception, and enhanced enjoyment from sensory experiences. It has also been described as an entactogen (a drug that can increase self-awareness and empathy).
However, some pills sold as ecstasy may only have a small amount of MDMA or none at all. Other drugs and ‘fillers’ are often used instead. This makes it hard to know what reactions to expect after taking MDMA or if negative side effects will be experienced. Methylenedioxymethamphetamine is an empathogen, which increases an individual’s feeling of empathy and kindness, and increases feelings of being socially accepted by other people.
Various Forms of MDMA Drug
Ecstasy is often used to refer to MDMA in the tablet or capsule form, which is the most common way people take the drug. Studies have determined that many ecstasy tablets contain not only MDMA at different concentrations, but also a number of other drugs combinations that can be harmful to humans.. Adulterants found in ecstasy tablets purchased on the street have included methamphetamine, the anesthetic ketamine, caffeine, the diet drug ephedrine, the over-the-counter cough suppressant dextromethorphan, heroin, phencyclidine (PCP) and also codeine. cocaine.
Molly slang for “molecular” refers to the crystalline powder form of MDMA, usually sold as powder or in capsules. Some people mistakenly believe that Molly does not contain contaminants often found in ecstasy. In fact, chemical analyses of drugs sold as Molly and seized by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) have shown that they often contain other types of drugs and may not contain any MDMA. For instance epidemiologists from Washington state and Florida reported in 2013 that substances being sold as Molly were actually methylone, a synthetic stimulant commonly found in “bath salts.” In 2015, ethylone, a synthetic stimulant similar to methylone but with some differences in binding within the brain, replaced methylone as the main substance marketed as Molly. This explains that people who take Molly often do not know what they are ingesting, and the substances sold as Molly may pose serious health risks and might even lead to death.
When taking MDMA in tablet or capsule form, the effects are usually felt 45 minutes after taking the drugs on average. These effects are very high at 15 to 30 minutes after they are first felt and last an average of 3 hours. Side effects of the drug could be experienced for a couple of days. People typically take one to two tablets on each occasion, with each tablet generally containing between 50 and 150 milligrams of MDMA. People often take a second dose of the drug as the effects of the first dose begin to fade.
There is no safety in taking drugs. The use of hard drugs always comes with side effects. Side effects of mdma ranges from common to severe side effects based on level of intake of drug, and it also varies from one individual to the other.
MDMA affects everyone differently based on;
- size, weight and health
- whether the person is used to taking it
- whether other drugs are taken around the same time
- the amount taken
- the strength of the drug (varies from batch to batch)
- environment (where the drug is taken).
Effects of MDMA are usually felt about 20 minutes to an hour after the drug is being taken and last for about 3 – 4 hours.
The common side effects includes the following:
- euphoria
- feeling energetic and confident
- dilated (enlarged) pupils
- jaw clenching and teeth grinding
- heightened senses (sight, hearing and touch)
- excessive sweating and skin tingles
- muscle aches and pains
- reduced appetite
- fast heartbeat
- increased blood pressure
- dehydration
- heat stroke
- drinking extreme amounts of water
Severe side effects includes:
- floating sensations
- perceptual changes, such as visual and auditory hallucinations
- out-of-character irrational behaviour
- anxiety
- irritability, paranoia and aggression
- vomiting
- high body temperature
- racing heartbeat
- convulsions.
Taking MDMA With Other Drugs
The effects of taking MDMA with other drugs including over the counter or prescribed medications can be unpredictable and dangerous to consumers.
MDMA + ice speed or cocaine: increased risk of anxiety and reduced brain functioning due to dopamine depletion. Enormous strain on the cardiovascular system and other parts of the body, which can lead to stroke.
MDMA + antidepressants: Drowsiness, clumsiness, restlessness and feeling drunk and dizzy.
MDMA + alcohol: increased risk of dehydration and consequently drinking too much water.
